Erin Massey Hiro is a tenured journalism professor at Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif. She teaches all levels of journalism courses and advises both the award-winning campus newspaper, The Telescope, and the campus magazine, IMPACT. She loves being a teacher and adores her students.
Before securing the full-time job at Palomar, Hiro taught journalism, advertising and communications at San Diego State University and the University of Phoenix. She previously worked for a decade as a reporter at local and national newspapers, writing news, business and feature stories on government, schools and social issues.
Hiro earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and a master’s in newspaper management from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Now that her first textbook is finished, she’s heading back to school to earn a second master’s degree in instructional design because she always wants to be a better teacher.
