When users are first added to a book with one of these roles, a new contributor will automatically be created in that book for the user and will have its contributor information populated from the user's profile.\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> If a user changes their first or last name in their user profile, we will attempt to update any of this user's contributor records. Apart from this, contributor and user profile information is not synced or updated in any way. No changes made to a contributor record will ever be merged to a user profile, and no changes to a user profile after a contributor is first created (apart from name changes) will ever be merged to an already created contributor.<\/div>\n<h2>By Creating a Single Contributor<\/h2>\nThere are some cases where you may wish to create a contributor for a person who does not have a user account in your book.\u00a0To create a single contributor in your book:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Visit the Contributors page of your book<\/li>\n \t<li>Fill in the name (required) and any other details you wish to include for your contributor<\/li>\n \t<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Add New Contributor\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><a id=\"contributorinfo\" href=\"\"><\/a>Contributor Info<\/h2>\n<img class=\"alignright wp-image-221 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/screencapture-integrations-pressbooks-network-integrationtests-wp-admin-edit-tags-php-2021-09-27-10_01_03-393x1024.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"393\" height=\"1024\">Contributors can receive any of the following information (which corresponds with <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.palomar.edu\/guide\/chapter\/update-your-user-profile\/\">user profile information<\/a>):\n\n<strong>Name:\u00a0<\/strong>The display name for the person. This is the only required field for creating a contributor.\n\n<strong>Slug:\u00a0<\/strong>URL-friend version of the name. You can leave this blank and it will be automatically created when you save the contributor\n\n<strong>Prefix:\u00a0<\/strong>An optional prefix which is displayed before the person's first name [e.g. Dr., Prof., Ms., Rev., Capt.].\n\n<strong>First Name:\u00a0<\/strong>The contributor's first name\n\n<strong>Last Name:\u00a0<\/strong>The contributor's last name\n\n<strong>Suffix:\u00a0<\/strong>An optional suffix which is displayed after the person's last name [e.g. Jr., Sr., IV, PhD, MD, USN (Ret.)].\n\n<strong>Picture:\u00a0<\/strong>An optional profile picture for the contributor. Images should be 400x400 pixels. You will be allowed to crop larger images following upload.\n\n<strong>Biographical Info:\u00a0<\/strong>A optional biography for the contributor. The biography can include multiple paragraphs, bold, italics, and links, but most other HTML will be stripped out upon save.\n\n<strong>Institution:\u00a0<\/strong>An optional institution for the contributor [e.g. Rebus Foundation, Open University, Amnesty International].\n\n<strong>Website, Twitter, LinkedIn, GitHub<\/strong>: Optional URLs for the contributor's website or social media profiles for Twitter, LinkedIn, or GitHub.\n<h2><a id=\"importingcontributors\" href=\"\"><\/a>Importing Contributors<\/h2>\nYou can import multiple contributors at once by uploading a valid JSON file. The easiest way to obtain a valid JSON file is to download one or more contributors from a book's contributor list (see the <strong>Downloading Contributors\u00a0<\/strong>section of this guide chapter). You can also click the contributor's name directly.<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll be brought to the \u201cEdit Contributor\u201d page for that contributor. Make the desired changes for the contributor.<\/li>\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Click <strong>Update <\/strong>to save your changes.<strong>\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-224\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-from-2021-09-27-10-45-00.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"816\" height=\"369\">\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><a id=\"downloadingcontributors\" href=\"\"><\/a>Downloading Contributors<\/h2>\nYou can download one or more contributors from a book to import into another book project. This can save you time if you're working on multiple projects which share some of the same contributors. You will be able to use this file to import contributors into another book by following the instructions in the <strong>Importing Multiple Contributors <\/strong>section of this guide chapter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h1><a id=\"displayingcontributors\" href=\"\"><\/a>Displaying Contributor Information<\/h1>\nInformation about contributors can be optionally displayed in two places: 1) at the end of front\/back matter or chapters which have contributors assigned as 'Author(s)' in the content's metadata, 2) in a special 'contributors' back matter content type which displays information about all book-level contributors.\n<h2><a id=\"displaychaptercontributors\" href=\"\"><\/a>Displaying Chapter-level Contributor Information<\/h2>\nTo display contributor information in front\/back matter &amp; chapters:\n<ol>\n \t<li>Create the relevant contributors for your book<\/li>\n \t<li>Assign these contributors as 'Author(s)' in the relevant front\/back matter or chapter metadata (<a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.palomar.edu\/guide\/chapter\/chapters\/#chaptermetadata\">see instructions<\/a>, if needed)<\/li>\n \t<li>Visit\u00a0<strong>Appearance -&gt; Theme Options -&gt; Global Options <\/strong>and select and save the <strong>About the Author<\/strong> option\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-227\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-from-2021-09-27-12-27-55.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"917\" height=\"317\"><\/li>\n<\/ol>\nWhen selected, an 'About the Author(s)' section will be displayed at the end of all front\/back matter or chapters which have authors assigned. The section will include a profile picture, name, institution, website and social links, and contributor bio for all contributors assigned as an author in that particular chapter. A sample 'About the Authors' section is shown below:\n\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-228\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-from-2021-09-27-12-37-51.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"816\" height=\"937\">\n<h2><a id=\"displaybookcontributors\" href=\"\"><\/a>Displaying Book Contributor Information for the Book<\/h2>\nTo display book-level contributors for your book (i.e. a list of all the contributors you have assigned to book-level roles in Book Info):\n<ol>\n \t<li>Create the relevant contributors for your book<\/li>\n \t<li>Assign these contributors to the relevant roles in your book's Book Info (<a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.palomar.edu\/guide\/chapter\/book-info\/#Contributors\">see instructions<\/a>, if needed)<\/li>\n \t<li>Select <strong>Organize &gt; Add Back Matter<\/strong> from your book dashboard<\/li>\n \t<li>Select '<strong>Contributors<\/strong>' as the Back Matter type\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-229\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screenshot-from-2021-09-27-10-52-27.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"313\" height=\"337\"><\/li>\n \t<li>Leave the back matter content blank and give the back matter your desired title.<\/li>\n \t<li>Click <strong>Create<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\nYou'll now have some back matter content which automatically displays contributor information for all of the book-level contributors that you've associated with your book info. Like any other back matter this content can be included or excluded from the webbook and your exports and can have its title shown or hidden. The display order for book contributors is as follows:\n<ol>\n \t<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n \t<li>Editor(s)<\/li>\n \t<li>Author(s)<\/li>\n \t<li>Contributor(s)<\/li>\n \t<li>Translator(s)<\/li>\n \t<li>Reviewer(s)<\/li>\n \t<li>Illustrator(s)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Adding contributors to individual chapters as authors does not automatically assign them to a role at the book level.
