Read on to learn about:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><a href=\"#usersandcollaborators4\">Adding Users and Assigning Permissions<\/a><\/li>\r\n \t<li><a href=\"#usersandcollaborators2\">Managing Users and Changing Permissions\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\r\n \t<li><a href=\"#usersandcollaborators1\">User Roles in Pressbooks<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h1><a id=\"usersandcollaborators4\"><\/a>Adding Users and Assigning Permissions<\/h1>\r\nYou can access the 'Add New Users' interface either by selecting <strong>Users -&gt; Add New<\/strong> from your book's admin dashboard or by clicking the <strong>Add New<\/strong> button on your book's Users page.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone wp-image-3420\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2021\/02\/Screen-Shot-2021-09-27-at-7.34.14-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"481\" \/>\r\n\r\nYou can also see a list of users and their roles in the Users widget on your book\u2019s Dashboard page. The Users panel displays the icon, username, and role of each user on the book (except for subscribers). The total number of users, as well as the number of users in each role, will be stated at the bottom of the panel. These option will be also visible to 'book administrators' if your network manager has selected the \"<strong>Allow Book Administrators to Invite New Users as Collaborators<\/strong>\" option in <a href=\"https:\/\/networkmanagerguide.pressbooks.com\/chapter\/network-options\/#registration\">'Network Options'<\/a>.<\/div>\r\n<h2>Add Existing User<\/h2>\r\nTo add an existing Pressbooks user (i.e. someone who already has an account on your Pressbooks network):\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Select the\u00a0<strong>Users\u00a0<\/strong>tab on the left sidebar menu of your book\u2019s dashboard<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Add New\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Enter the existing user's email address or username<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Select the role<\/strong> you'd like to give them in your book<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click <strong>Add Existing User.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<div class=\"wp-nocaption alignnone size-full wp-image-2154\">\r\n\r\n<img class=\"size-full wp-image-2793\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2019-11-28-at-4.14.43-PM.png\" alt=\"Add existing user form with numbered cues \" width=\"1362\" height=\"573\" \/>\r\n\r\nUsers invited by this method will be sent a confirmation email requiring them to accept the invitation to be added to this book. They will not appear in the book's user list or be able to access the project until they have confirmed their participation.\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h2>Add New User<\/h2>\r\nTo add someone as a user to your book who does not already have an account on your Pressbooks network:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Select the\u00a0<strong>Users\u00a0<\/strong>tab on the left sidebar menu of your book\u2019s dashboard<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Add New\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Provide a username<\/strong> for this new user<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Provide an email address<\/strong> for the new user<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Select the role<\/strong> you'd like to give them in your book<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click '<strong>Add New User<\/strong>'<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<div>\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone wp-image-2794 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2019-11-28-at-4.22.11-PM.png\" alt=\"Add New User form with number cues\" width=\"906\" height=\"353\" \/>\r\n\r\nA confirmation email will be sent to the new user's email address. This new user must confirm the creation of their account and accept your invitation before they will appear in your book's user list and have access to the project.\r\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> Some networks only allow users with specific email domains to be added as users on their network. Contact your network manager if you have any questions about allowed or banned email domains for users on your network.<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h2>Add Users in Bulk<\/h2>\r\nYou can also add multiple users to your book at the same time. The Bulk Add feature allows you to add both\u00a0<strong>new <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>existing Pressbooks users\u00a0<\/strong>to your book at the same time.\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Select the\u00a0<strong>Users\u00a0<\/strong>tab on the left sidebar menu of your book\u2019s dashboard<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Bulk Add\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Enter the emails<\/strong> for each person you intend to invite to the book (place one email address per line with no additional punctuation)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Select the desired <strong>Role<\/strong> for these users.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click \"<strong>Add users<\/strong>\"<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<img class=\"alignnone wp-image-2795 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2019-11-28-at-4.36.07-PM.png\" alt=\"Add Bulk Users form \" width=\"1406\" height=\"517\" \/>\r\n\r\nYou will receive a notification at the top of the screen that lets you know which users were added, which need to confirm their accounts before they'll be added, and which users were unable to be added.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2796\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2019-11-28-at-4.40.16-PM.png\" alt=\"Bulk add user notifications and errors\" width=\"1237\" height=\"310\" \/>\r\n\r\nAny new users added via the Bulk Add option will be sent an email asking that they confirm registration of their account. New users will not appear in your book's user list until they've confirmed their account. Existing users will immediately appear in the user list without requiring special confirmation.\r\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>Note: <\/strong>All users added at the same time via the Bulk Add method entered will be given the same role. If you want to add many users to your book at once but assign them different roles, you can either perform the Bulk Add operation several times, choosing a new set of users for each desired role, or you can add all users with the minimum desired permission and then bulk change user permissions after they have been added and confirmed as users.<\/div>\r\n<h1><a id=\"usersandcollaborators2\"><\/a>Managing Users and Changing Permissions<\/h1>\r\nSometimes you may wish to change user permissions or delete users from a book. Follow the steps below to manage users and their permissions within your book.\r\n\r\n<strong>To access users:\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Select the\u00a0<strong>Users\u00a0<\/strong>tab on the left sidebar menu of your book's dashboard<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click\u00a0<strong>All Users\u00a0<\/strong>to view all users in any role on a given book<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.palomar.edu\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10270\/2014\/06\/all_users_screen1.png\"><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-116 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/all_users_screen1-e1632795636445.png\" alt=\"All Users screen in Pressbooks\" width=\"722\" height=\"166\" \/><\/a>\r\n\r\nTo change a user's role:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Select one or more users by <strong>clicking the checkbox next to their username(s)<\/strong> (selecting the checkbox next to\u00a0<strong>Username<\/strong> at the top or the bottom of the user list will select all users)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Open the \"<strong>Change role to...<\/strong>\" dropdown menu and <strong>select the desired role<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Change\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nThe new role for any affected users will be reflected in the <strong>Role\u00a0<\/strong>column.\r\n\r\nTo remove users from your book:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Select one or more users by\u00a0<strong>clicking the checkbox next to their username(s)\u00a0<\/strong>(selecting the checkbox next to\u00a0<strong>Username<\/strong> at the top or the bottom of the user list will select all users)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Open the \"<strong>Bulk Actions<\/strong>\" dropdown menu and <strong>select \"Remove<\/strong>\"<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Apply\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nThis will remove all selected users from the book.\r\n<h1><a id=\"usersandcollaborators1\"><\/a>User Roles in Pressbooks<\/h1>\r\nUsers can be assigned to one of the following roles within an individual book project: Administrator, Editor, Author, Collaborator, or Subscriber. It is always possible for Administrators or Editors in a book (or network managers on the network) to re-assign the 'Owner' for a given chapter or front\/back matter from its Edit page, using the dropdown menu in the <strong>Owner<\/strong> box at the bottom of the page (below the Visual \/ Text editor and Chapter Metadata). Any users belonging to the book with a role higher than Subscriber may be assigned as the 'Owner' of a chapter. In this way, an Author or Collaborator user can be assigned edit access to a chapter that they themselves did not create.\r\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>Note: <\/strong>Only one user can be the 'Owner' of an individual page at a given time. Listed 'Chapter Author(s)' update metadata, but not user permissions.<\/div>\r\nDifferent user roles also have access to different interfaces while within Pressbooks. They will not appear in the book&#8217;s user list or be able to access the project until they have confirmed their participation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Add New User<\/h2>\n<p>To add someone as a user to your book who does not already have an account on your Pressbooks network:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select the\u00a0<strong>Users\u00a0<\/strong>tab on the left sidebar menu of your book\u2019s dashboard<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Add New\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Provide a username<\/strong> for this new user<\/li>\n<li><strong>Provide an email address<\/strong> for the new user<\/li>\n<li><strong>Select the role<\/strong> you&#8217;d like to give them in your book<\/li>\n<li>Click &#8216;<strong>Add New User<\/strong>&#8216;<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2794 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2019-11-28-at-4.22.11-PM.png\" alt=\"Add New User form with number cues\" width=\"906\" height=\"353\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A confirmation email will be sent to the new user&#8217;s email address. This new user must confirm the creation of their account and accept your invitation before they will appear in your book&#8217;s user list and have access to the project.<\/p>\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> Some networks only allow users with specific email domains to be added as users on their network. Contact your network manager if you have any questions about allowed or banned email domains for users on your network.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Add Users in Bulk<\/h2>\n<p>You can also add multiple users to your book at the same time. The Bulk Add feature allows you to add both\u00a0<strong>new <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>existing Pressbooks users\u00a0<\/strong>to your book at the same time.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select the\u00a0<strong>Users\u00a0<\/strong>tab on the left sidebar menu of your book\u2019s dashboard<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Bulk Add\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Enter the emails<\/strong> for each person you intend to invite to the book (place one email address per line with no additional punctuation)<\/li>\n<li>Select the desired <strong>Role<\/strong> for these users.<\/li>\n<li>Click &#8220;<strong>Add users<\/strong>&#8220;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2795 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2019-11-28-at-4.36.07-PM.png\" alt=\"Add Bulk Users form\" width=\"1406\" height=\"517\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will receive a notification at the top of the screen that lets you know which users were added, which need to confirm their accounts before they&#8217;ll be added, and which users were unable to be added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2796\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4748\/2022\/10\/Screen-Shot-2019-11-28-at-4.40.16-PM.png\" alt=\"Bulk add user notifications and errors\" width=\"1237\" height=\"310\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Any new users added via the Bulk Add option will be sent an email asking that they confirm registration of their account. New users will not appear in your book&#8217;s user list until they&#8217;ve confirmed their account. Existing users will immediately appear in the user list without requiring special confirmation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>Note: <\/strong>All users added at the same time via the Bulk Add method entered will be given the same role. If you want to add many users to your book at once but assign them different roles, you can either perform the Bulk Add operation several times, choosing a new set of users for each desired role, or you can add all users with the minimum desired permission and then bulk change user permissions after they have been added and confirmed as users.<\/div>\n<h1><a id=\"usersandcollaborators2\"><\/a>Managing Users and Changing Permissions<\/h1>\n<p>Sometimes you may wish to change user permissions or delete users from a book. It is always possible for Administrators or Editors in a book (or network managers on the network) to re-assign the &#8216;Owner&#8217; for a given chapter or front\/back matter from its Edit page, using the dropdown menu in the <strong>Owner<\/strong> box at the bottom of the page (below the Visual \/ Text editor and Chapter Metadata). Any users belonging to the book with a role higher than Subscriber may be assigned as the &#8216;Owner&#8217; of a chapter. In this way, an Author or Collaborator user can be assigned edit access to a chapter that they themselves did not create.<\/p>\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>Note: <\/strong>Only one user can be the &#8216;Owner&#8217; of an individual page at a given time. Listed &#8216;Chapter Author(s)&#8217; update metadata, but not user permissions.<\/div>\n<p>Different user roles also have access to different interfaces while within Pressbooks.
